Plaid Door
The Plaid Door Thrift and Consignment store has been located at 220 No. 40th Ave. for over 35 years. Half of the income from the store goes directly to St. Timothy’s for internal projects as well as discretionary funding for the clergy. The other 50% of our profits is distributed to various Yakima Valley organizations after a committee reviews their applications. The yearly recipients are listed in the church and at the store.
The Plaid Door is a thrilling example of Christian Outreach - at many levels. A hidden benefit is the social experience for our volunteers and customers. We have many “regulars” shopping daily. Out-of-towners put P.D. on their list when visiting in Yakima. New consigners sign up every week, greatly appreciating their 50% payback from sales. We have helped young families locate quality baby gear, teenagers find prom wear, college folks discover retro clothing, linens, dishes and appliances for the dorm. Men and women preparing to reenter the job force find suitable work clothing. Travelers seek out luggage and wrinkle-free garments. Our formals and glitter head for weddings, cruises, and galas. We have helped with families in emergency situations; we offer comfort and accommodate new widows and widowers. We have soft, washable garments for relatives in nursing homes. We have some maternity wear. There are fur coats, fleece coats, down coats and lab coats. Ski and camping gear comes and goes as do books, videos, art objects, jewelry, Nordstrom-Liz-JNY fashions. People seeking antiques find “treasuresâ€. We have techno-trinkets for the men.We encourage you to come and “check out” the Plaid Door. Hours of operation are 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
