Who are we and what do we do? That is a good question and one that will be evolving for months to come. The group met for the first time on January 10, 2009 in the All Saints room. We had ten women present from ages 16 to 70 plus. We went around the room and each person listed her own personal reasons for attending. Our reasons fell into two categories: (1) Ideas: things that people would like to see the group do or start and (2) Purpose: the intangible things that bring a group together other than hands-on activities. As to ideas, the ones that were identified by the ten members present were: creating items of comfort or help that we could make and distribute to our church family and the larger community such as baby quilts and lap robes, knitted and crocheted items such as prayer shawls, baby quilts, baby hats and other items. Some members were interested in getting together with others for crafting activities such as beading and scrap booking while others were interested in a book club, spiritual reading, prayer and discussions. As to purpose, and without exception, all agreed that the main purpose of our group should be to provide a way to connect with other women in the church through Christian fellowship. We included within that evangelism, being an ECW group that provided support and comfort to the church, provided spiritual support to others in the group and beyond and to find ways of incorporating our young people in or through our group. The final item we added to our list was one that we all agreed on, that in seeking God’s purpose for us. This would be a continually evolving group due to the diverse interests of our members.

I believe that as our initial meeting we are off to a great start. The group chose to meet the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month at 10:00 a.m. in the All Saints room. Please come to the next gathering prepared to share additional ideas, fellowship and activities that appeal to you. If you will need daycare at the next meeting please let me know AHEAD of time if possible so that I can make those arrangements. We are currently in need of building up the quilting and yarn related supplies. If any of you have flannel fabric and quilting related supplies or yarn, knitting and crocheting related supplies to donate to the group it would be greatly appreciated. We also could use an ironing board and a working iron. I’m sure that we will be in need of additional supplies as the group expands but this should do it for now.
